Getting Started with Training Today

What is Training Today?

Training Today monitors your Health Data from your Apple Watch to determine your Readiness To Train (RTT) daily and throughout the day.

Training Today can help you stay safe from overtraining injury and tell you the best time to work hard, take it easy, or have a rest day.

We take a holistic view of your life by using the advanced capabilities of Apple Watch to monitor your health 24hrs a day, and we process that data to create a simple, accurate guide to help you reach your training goal.

Training Today is free to download and use, but a subscription is required to use all its features. See Features for Subscribers

Installing Training Today

Permissions required

The following permissions are required for Training Today to work correctly.

During installation, you will be prompted to set these, so you only need to look at them if you want to change them or check they have been set correctly.

iPhone

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > Training Today. The following permissions are required.

(NB Menstruation is required in release 2.2 and later, and at time of writing is only available to internal beta testers)

Health permissions required for iPhone in Apple Health: Active Energy, Exercise Minutes, Heart Rate Variability, Menstuation, Resting Energy, Resting Heart Rate, Sleep, Walking + Running Distance, Workouts.

Apple Watch

The following are required for Apple Watch.

Go to Settings > Health > Apps > Training Today to check them.

  • Active Energy
  • Exercise Minutes
  • Heart Rate Variability
  • Menstruation
  • Resting Energy
  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Sleep
  • Walking + Running Distance
  • Workouts

Apple Watch Notifications

In addition, the Apple Watch Training Today app can show notifications when your average RTT changes compared to the previous four days. You can manage notifications for Apple Watch, in general, using the instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204791.

You can also customise the Training Today Apple Watch notification in settings (see later in the guide)
