The RTT Chart on iPhone

RTT is our unique calculation that indicates your Readiness To Train each day and throughout the day.

Daily Chart

The RTT Weekly chart shows your daily RTT scores and associated activities we detected from Apple Health.  Drag your finger along the chart to see detail for a particular point in time.

Full HRV and RHR Charts

A full history of your Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Resting Heart Rate (RHR) and sleep data on iPhone.
Full HRV and RHR charts
HRV and RTT data shown of weeks, months and years
Both HRV and RTT are a good indication of overall fitness (you can read more about that here: HRV and overall fitness )
These easy-to-navigate Yearly, Monthly and Weekly views mean you can browse through your entire history to see how your base fitness has changed over time.
Ideally, you would want to see an increase in HRV and a decrease in RHR over time.

Sleep Data

If you track your sleep data using Apple Watch (either with standard Apple Sleep Tracking or a third-party app that records its data in Apple Health), then we can show that sleep data on the iPhone charts so you can see how it relates to your RTT scores. Typically poor sleep will reduce your RTT scores.

Image showing sleep stages against the RTT chart. In this image, you can see my Core sleep was poor compared to the other days that week, but REM and Deep sleep were good.
The image above shows that my Core sleep was poor compared to the other weekdays, but REM and Deep sleep were good.

The size of the bars shown for the sleep stages represents how they compare to the other days for the selected week.

For example, the REM bar is relative to other REM times within the seven-day chart that is currently visible. So the shortest REM day within the 7-day set will have a really short bar compared to others.

This allows you to quickly spot if a certain day has abnormal sleep stage numbers within that 7-day period.

Activity Intensity Score (AIS)

In version 2,1, we have introduced a new metric called Activity Intensity Score.

Our AIS algorithm is largely based on your daily active energy burned (as logged in Apple Health) and shows how intense your day was regarding workout activity.

Using this score, you can better understand how your workouts have impacted your daily RTT score.

For example, after a recent Olympic Distance triathlon event, my AIS for that day was 68.1, with my RTT diving to 0.6, compared to 32.8 for a multi-sport training day or 7.5 for a recovery day, when RTT was more stable.   The score is relative, will vary from person to person based on their physiology, and has no maximum value.

You would typically expect a relatively high AIS to hurt your RTT score, though that is not always true.  Remember, you can tap on your RTT score in the iPhone app for a more detailed explanation of what the score means.

Settings to Fine-Tune your RTT Score

Settings Screen

Since everyone is different and recovery trends can vary from an elite athlete to an amateur, the settings screen allows you to fine-tune your RTT score.

Apple Watch Notifications

Apple Watch notification

Apple Watch will notify you when your RTT changes by the amount you have set in settings compared to your 4-day average.  Please note that you need to have Training Today as a complication on your active watch face; otherwise, the app will not get enough runtime in the background, and the notifications won’t appear.

Apple Watch Smart Stack Widget

You can add the Training Today Smart Stack Widget to your Apple Watch as either a chart or with the text description for your RTT score. See the Apple documentation for instructions on how to do this: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/watch/apdecf142fb9/watchos

Siri Support

Hey Siri

You can ask Siri what your RTT Score is.

Say: "Hey Siri, what's my Training Today Score?" or "Hey Siri, what's my Training Today RTT?"

Just so you know, because of issues with watchOS 9, this doesn't always work well on Apple Watch; we think about 30% of the time.  However, it works great on iPhones!  Hopefully, Apple will resolve the Apple Watch Siri Intents soon.

Siri Shortcuts

You can use your RTT score in Apple Shortcuts

See how the above Siri shortcut was created (or download it) here: https://trainingtodayapp.helpscoutdocs.com/article/51-example-siri-shortcut
