Intensity, Smoothing and Notification Settings (v1.8 or later)

There are three settings you can adjust in Training Today once you have subscribed - they are available by tapping the settings tab in the iPhone app.

Smoothing

If you get a lot of HRV readings in a day, the chart can look very “jagged” - increasing the smoothing value will level it out more so there are not such dramatic changes.  In the animation below you can see as more smoothing is applied the chart shows a larger downward trend in this case.  As smoothing is removed, the chart changes much more over time and it's harder to determine a trend.

Generally, we recommend leaving the smoothing at the 24hr setting, though.  You can read more about our methodology for this here: https://trainingtodayapp.com/blog/training-today-rtt-methodology-and-24-hour-comparative-data

Intensity

Intensity simply moves the whole chart higher or lower so the rating goes up and down overall. This is so you can make adjustments if our calculation of your baselines values (taken from the last 60 days) is out for whatever reason.  In the animation below you can see how the chart moves as you increase or decrease intensity.

Generally we recommend keeping the Intesity set to the default unless you have some reason to suspect your baseline data is not accurate.

Notifications

You can drag the slider to change notification tolerance on Apple Watch.  So setting this to 1 means of your RTT score goes up or down by a value of 1 compared to your 4-day average you will receive a notification on Apple Watch.

Please note that you have Training Today as a complication on your active watch face otherwise, the app will not get enough runtime in the background, and the notifications won’t appear.

You can manage your Apple Watch notifications using the features of watchOS detailed in this apple document: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204791
